Spanning the breadth of international urban bass music, MAGA BO's work makes connections between the organic and the electronic, the traditional and the avant-garde, the local and the global. In his live performances, original productions and remixes from his far reaching creative collaborations take new forms while mixed live. There are no canned samples here; all instruments and vocals come straight from the source. Having participated in artistic residencies in Morocco, India, Ethiopia, Senegal, Zanzibar, South Africa to name a few, direct, in-person collaborations have been paramount in his work. Maga boo's studio work and live performances are informed by the philosophies of hip hop and dub on a fundamental level. Maga Bo's studio work and live performances are informed by the philosophies of hip hop and dub on a fundamental level.

He adds and subtracts elements dub-wise in the same way that as artist might work with positive and negative space. Working with layers of sounds, it's not only rhythm or harmony, but juxtapositions and textures that give this work a depth rarely seen in electronic music today. Maga Bo has performed in India, Ethiopia, Brazil, America, and major festivals across Europe and Australia. On the road nearly constantly, he still manages to keep up on the production front, having collaborated with Mulatu Astatke, Issa Bagayogo, Bollywood star Shilpa Rao, BaianaSystem as well as releasing critically acclaimed remixes for Poirier, Luisa Maita, Filastine, Blick Bassy and Bomba Estéreo. Released DJ/Rupture's Soot Records, his critically acclaimed debut full length, Archipelagoes, was recorded in Senegal, Tanzania, Morocco, and South Africa and featured heavyweight local rappers and musicians.. He later released an EP on Senseless Records from his work with traditional musicians in Ethiopia. His music and remixes have also been released on Tru- Thoughts, Ninja Tune, Cumbancha, World Connection and many others. Having performed and worked in over 40 countries, his work has brought him in confrontation with coked up, bribe-seeking policeman, inebriated clandestine taxi drivers, and malaria. Tackling challenging topics of cultural appropriation, stylistic fusion, and immigration, this is crucial creativity and collaboration accomplished by any means necessary. Call it transnational bass or global bass or tropical bass, Maga Bo is tapped into and part of this weird new sonic zone.

On this night, we will celebrate the release Maga Bo's Quilombo do Futuro. Diving deep into afro-Brazilian rhythms and sound system culture, its organic elements combine with electronic production to bring the punch and power for big sound systems. Coco, maculelê, samba, jongo and capoeira meet ragga and dub, hip hop and kuduro, grime and dubstep. This is serious batucada and bass, mids, treble. TUDO.
